Water Park Employee Killed By Lightning
TAMPA (CBS4) – An employee of Tampa's Adventure Island water park who was struck by lightning on Saturday has died.
Twenty one year old Justin Inversso, who worked as a lifeguard supervisor at the park, was standing in a few feet of water at the Key West Rapids ride when he was hit. Park employees performed CPR on him until Tampa Fire Rescue workers arrived. Inversso was taken to University Community Hospital, where he died.
It's not immediately clear if the water slide was closing at the time due to a storm moving through the area. The ride was closed after Inversso was taken to the hospital, but the park remained open.
Park President Jim Dean told the St. Petersburg Times this was "the first incident of its kind at the park."
