Water Main Break Floods Section Of Miller Road
WEST KENDALL (CBS4) – Residents of several southwest portions of Miami-Dade will notice their water pressure is really low when they turn on the tap.
Early Tuesday afternoon a 48-inch water main sprung a leak under Miller Road/SW 56th Street at SW 129th Avenue. For much of the day, Miller Road was closed to westbound traffic between SW 122nd Street and SW 137th Street due to flooding and repair crews at work. But that didn't stop postal worker Alan Kwoczka who kept up his appointed rounds.
"The mail has to be delivered," said Kwoczka, "We have to do our jobs."
The line that broke is a regional transmission main which provides water to the southwest area of the County. Thankfully no homes were damaged, according to Miami-Dade Water & Sewer spokeswoman Adriana Lamar.
"The crews are on site. They've already shut off all the valves so the flooding is under control," said Lamar. "There was some flooding in the area."
Area residents were advised to conserve water usage during the repair process. It turns out this water line break happened in the same line which had a similar break months ago.
"Yeah, this is an older pipe and one that we are inspecting to see the condition of the pipe and make repairs as needed," said Lamar.
Those who live in the affected areas can expect lower than normal water pressure during peak water demand times - which are the morning and evening hours.
