Boil Water Notice For Broward Communities After Water Main Breaks
HOLLYWOOD (CBSMiami) – Repair crews are fixing a broken water main in Hollywood. The break in a 24 inch line led to boil water notices being issued for not only Hollywood, but areas that receive water from Hollywood and Broward County.
It happened in a line on South 28th Avenue and Van Buren Street near Hollywood Boulevard.
"The water pressure was really low and I'm like what's going on and I go outside and I see six feet of water just shooting up," said Jaime Dowling, who lives nearby.
Thursday afternoon, water flooded 28th Avenue just before rush hour, snarling traffic in both directions on Hollywood Boulevard just east of I-95.
"I got off the bus today and the police officer says I can't walk through the sidewalks so I jump a fence over there and I see the whole street is flooded," said Andres Angarita.
Crews worked into the night Thursday to repair the break. Even after much of the water receded, boil water notices were issued because of the break.
Hollywood city officials advised residents to boil tap water for at least one minute before drinking it or washing dishes for at least the next 24 hours.
However, Hollywood spokeswoman Raelin Story said tap water is safe for showering.
Hollywood wasn't the only location impacted by the break. Davie residents were notified they need to boil their water too.
Broward County Health Department issued a Precautionary Boil Water Notice for all customers served by the City of Hollywood Public Utilities system and Broward County Utilities 3A and 3B areas.
