Water Line Break Causes Mess In Hallandale Beach Neighborhood
MIAMI (CBSMiami) - It was a soggy mess in a neighborhood just west of the Diplomat Golf Resort & Spa on Hallandale Beach after thousands of gallons of water flooded the streets.
City spokesman Peter Dobens said a contractor working on drainage improvements hit a water line at the corner of NE 12th Avenue and 7th Street around 8:15 a.m.
"This is not the primary water main but it's a spur off there, it's a 20 inch line," said Dobens. "It reduced water pressure throughout the city. The city was quick to act and work with the City of North Miami Beach to open an connection and we were able to restore pressure to most of the city."
Leo Samson said he had barely a trickle coming out of his faucet when he woke up.
"There was not water about," said Samson. "Now the water is back but the pressure is low. We'll wait to take showers until the pressure is good otherwise its not enough water."
Workers scrambled to control the torrential flow of H20 to keep it from flooding streets. They were able to repair the break by late Tuesday morning.
Residents are being told not be alarmed if the water coming out of their tap has a slight yellow or green tinge to it. The city said the pipes are being flushed and it's perfectly normal for some discoloration. They add that the water should just be left on until it turns clear and then it will be safe to consume.
