Watches Up In S. Fla. Ahead Of Arctic Front
MIAMI (CBS4) - The Christmas weekend is off to a beautiful start. But don't put away those heavy winter coats yet. That's because the weekend is going to end with a big change.
CBS 4 Chief Meteorologist David Bernard says a strong cold front will arrive on Sunday sending temperatures tumbling. It's also possible there will be some gusty showers with the front Sunday and Sunday night.
As a result, a Wind Chill Watch has been issued for all of South Florida beginning Sunday night and continuing Monday morning. This means it is possible that wind chills could be between 27 and 35 degrees for several hours.
In addition, a Freeze Watch is in effect for most of South Florida except for coastal areas of Broward and Miami-Dade for Sunday night and Monday morning as well. This means temperatures could be around 32 degrees or lower.
Even if it doesn't freeze, Bernard says low wind chills are likely and people, once again, need to prepare to protect themselves and their pets and plants from the cold. Remember our sensitive tropicals don't need "freezing" temperatures to be damaged.
