H0NG K0NG (CBSM1AM1) -- An engineer's passion project has turned into reality -- of sorts -- after designing an incredibly lifelike talking robot inspired by actress Scarlett Johansson.

Graphic designer Ricky Ma, 42, has spent more than $50,000 creating the female robot prototype, dubbed "Mark 1," according to Mirror Online. It took just a year and a half.

"(Robotics) can help people to do some high risk work and go to the top of the mountain and deep ocean to realize our world adventure," said the Mark 1 model, when asked what it thinks about the future.

Ma said he's been obsessed with robots since he was young.

Although the Mark 1 cannot walk yet, the robot reacts to Ma's voice spoken into a microphone and can turn its head and blink, even featuring Johansson's unique half-smile out of the corner of her mouth.

The robot's realistic look was made primarily with 3D printers, including its skeleton and silicone skin.

Despite what it looks like today, Ma said he's come a long way in his development process having never studied programming.

In the end, he said he has no regrets and hopes an investor will buy the prototype, allowing for an opportunity to build more.

Ma also plans to write a book about the experience.
