Wasserman Schultz, Rubio Attend Pro-Israel Rally In North Miami Beach
MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Hundreds of people gathered in North Miami Beach on Sunday to attend a solidarity rally in support of Israel.
Putting aside partisan politics, U.S. Senator Marco Rubio and U.S. Reps. Debbie Wasserman Schultz and Ileana Ros-Lehtinen spoke during the event at the Michael and Ann Russell Jewish Community Center.
"We come from different ethnic backgrounds. We come from different national backgrounds, different religious beliefs, but today we are one. And today our message is clear. We are all Americans and we all stand with Israel," said Ros-Lehtinen.
"We have to understand the importance of a strong and vibrant, Jewish democratic state of Israel. It's essential," Wasserman Schultz told the crowd.
Rubio said America's foreign policy on Israel needs to be made clearer at a time when there is so much conflict in the Middle East.
"So I think it's important to be very clear that America is firmly on Israel's side and that there's no space or daylight between American foreign policy and our stance on Israel," said Rubio.
A cease fire ended eight days of violence between Israel and Hamas.
Four Israeli civilians and two soldiers were killed and dozens others wounded by rockets fired from Gaza into residential neighborhoods. Palestinians say 161 people, including dozens of civilians, were killed.
