Warren Sapp, Former Cane and NFL Star, Files For Bankruptcy
FT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) - He won championship rings and owns 200 pairs of of Air Jordan sneakers, but what former Miami Hurricane Warren Sapp doesn't have is the millions needed to pay his bills, so he has filed bankruptcy in Broward County.
TMZ.com reported Sapp, who played in the pros for the Raiders and the Tampa Bay Bucs, where he earned a Super Bowl ring, filed for chapter 7 bankruptcy in Ft. Lauderdale March 30th.
The filing reportedly lists $6.7 million in debts, and only $6.5 million in assets. Chapter 7 bankruptcy eliminates debts completely, as opposed to Chapter 11 bankruptcy, which provides for a repayment plan to creditors.
The debts Sapp listed, TMZ said, include money for unpaid child support and alimony.
Sap played for the University of Miami Hurricanes and was part of a national championship. He currently serves as an analyst for the NFL network.
