Marjory Stoneman Douglas Parents April, Philip Schentrup File Federal Lawsuit Against US Government

MIAMI (CBSMiami) - The parents of Carmen Schentrup, one of the 17 people killed in the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School massacre, have filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the US government.

They allege negligence on the part of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, saying that the agency knew about the shooter's desire to commit a mass school shooting and failed to take action.

They go on to say that if the FBI had followed its mandatory obligations, Nikolas Cruz would not have succeeded in carrying out his attack and their daughter Carmen Schentrup would not have been killed.

Carmen was a talented musician, who dreamed of becoming a medical researcher and finding a cure for ALS.

She was one week away from celebrating her 17th birthday when she was killed.
