Wannado City: Going Once, Twice, Sold!
SUNRISE (CBS4) – Hundreds of items from the former Wannado City at Sawgrass Mills Mall in Sunrise hit the auction block on Tuesday.
The role playing theme park for kids permanently closed its doors on January 2nd citing poor performance.
Tuesday morning everything from children's costumes and props from the various 'jobs' they could do to a life sized fire engine, ambulance and airplane fuselage were up for grabs. Also up sale will be lighting, sound equipment, speakers, lamp posts and rock climbing walls along with servers, laptops and desktops.
At ten o'clock Tuesday morning auctioneers from Stampler Auctions got to work in what was the Wannado City theater, as hundreds of hopefuls anxiously waited for their item of choice to be called. One of the first items sold, a favorite among the children, was the fire truck which went for $16 thousand. Also, the animal hospital with two mechanical breathing dogs went for $6 thousand and Joe's Snack Bar $22,500.
However, not everyone walked away a winner. Aley Sheer, who was on the hunt for carnival supplies, left empty handed.
"They are selling most of the items in bulk and very expensive not for me" said Sheer even though the sentimental value was there "You can still hear the ghosts of the children laughing, it's sad to see everything go, it's sad to see"
Bidding began at 10 a.m. and the auction is expected to wrap up around 4 p.m.

As for what will happen to the space Sawgrass Mills Vice President Luanne Lenberg said last December that the mall had already lined up several new retailers.
"These are new stores — new stores and major brands that would like to be at Sawgrass and unfortunately we have not been able to accommodate them," she said.
Lenberg said the recapturing of the space would allow the mall to better move shoppers through the mall's upscale section of stores.
