Wannado City At Sawgrass Mills To Close In January

SUNRISE(CBS4) - For the last six years they've allowed children to do their dream job – from fighting pretend fires to becoming world famous chefs. But in January the three hundred plus employees of Wannado City at Sawgrass Mills will have to find jobs of their own.

The Sunrise based company has informed the state that they will be ceasing operations on January 12th and laying off 314 workers, according to The Sun-Sentinel. The company blamed financial instability as the reason for the closure.

Developed through a partnership with CIE Amusement Parks, based in Mexico, and the Mills Corp, the former owner of Sawgrass Mills, Wannado City offered kids the opportunity to role play in more than a 100 jobs in their 140 thousand square foot facility which opened at August 2007.

Wannado City employees were told about the closure last Friday and will be given severance packages and transition assistance if needed.

Mall officials said they plan to use the space to attract several new retail and outlet stores.
