Walmart Hires Thousands Of Florida Veterans
MIAMI (CBSMiami/Miami Herald) – On this Memorial Day weekend, Walmart has announced the hiring of more than two-thousand veterans, the second most hires out of all the states.
The hires have been part of the "Veterans Welcome Home Commitment" and it's first year, 42,000 veterans have been hired nationwide, reported CBS4 news partner, The Miami Herald.
Texas had the most hires.
The commitment guarantees a job offer to any honorably discharged veteran within his or her first 12 months off active duty, Walmart said.
The retailer projects it will hire more than 100,000 veterans in five years.
One of the newest stores to open this fall will be at Miami's Fontainebleau Park Plaza where 300 associates will be hired.
Anyone looking for work should go the temporary hiring center at 10901 SW 24th Street between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.
The Walmart Foundation also announced it is doubling its commitment to veterans by pledging an additional $20 million through 2019 to support veteran employment and transition programs nationwide.
In 2011, the Walmart Foundation pledged $20 million through 2015 to help veterans and their families, by supporting organizations that offer programs to provide job training, transition support and education.
Walmart said it met that goal one year early.
