Wade's Style On And Off The Court Comes From Dad
MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Miami Heat superstar Dwyane Wade has been one of the best players on the court since he arrived in Miami and that has carried over into his personal life whether it be personal style or being a father.
Wade earned his reputation on the court by leading the Heat to two championships as one of the most dynamic players in the NBA. Off the court, you'll never catch Wade looking anything less than a million dollars.
It all began for Wade 10 years ago when the Miami Heat selected him as a shooting guard out of Marquette University.
"When I got down here it was 'Whoa what is this?" Wade joked. "It was a different world for me, but I've kind of made my way into being adjusted here. This is my home. This will always be my home. I grew up here from age 21. Now, at age of 30, I've been through so much in my life here; I have a lot of history here."
Wade quickly became the face of the Miami Heat and besides being the leader of the team for several years; he also helped join the Big Three of him, LeBron James, and Chris Bosh in Miami.
"I learned right from wrong and this city has, from the day I got drafted; they've opened their arms for me, whatever I've been through," Wade said. "This organization as well. And it doesn't hurt that it's always sunny! I can't do the cold. I like to be real chill. I don't like to be cold like this with coat on."
Although Wade says these days he's spending more time eating at home with his girlfriend Gabrielle Union and his 2 sons; he does have a few favorite spots here in the Magic City.
"I do have a favorite restaurant here," Wade said. "Me and my lady spend a lot of time together. We actually rented a restaurant out for Thanksgiving. We flew 50-60 of our family members down. It's a new restaurant in the Design District called South Street. It has a nice vibe. You can go and be yourself."
Wade's sharpshooting on the court has been matched by his sharp attire off the court. He's been featured in multiple magazine spreads for his personal style and said the dedication to looking good came from his father.
So, is he a shopper?
"Not a shopper at all" said Wade. "I have a great team, a great stylist who gets me. It's important for me to look good. I'm a role model to my sons, more so than to anyone else, just like when my dad got up every morning; even when he was delivering in the truck, every Friday I'd see him get up and dress up and that made me say, 'That's how you go to work and that's how you present yourself. I understand that the way I leave the house is the impression I leave with my kids."
Aside from all the awards he's won, it's his charitable organization, "Wade's World," that he's most proud of.
"Wade's World Foundation for me is something I've always wanted to do. I got the name from "Wayne's World" (from Saturday Night Live) When I was kid, I knew it was gonna do something big with Wade's World.
Wade continued, "I didn't know what it was; but I always knew it's got to be Wade's World. And once I got the opportunity I said its gonna be Wade's World. It's something bigger than me bigger than us. This is something we can help. We can change the world one kid at a time."
