Wacky Bed Races Rolls Through Coconut Grove
COCONUT GROVE (CBS4Miami) – On your marks, get set, go! Runners laced up their shoe laces this weekend for one of the wackiest bed races in South Florida.
Dozens of competitors gathered in Coconut Grove Sunday afternoon to race at the 30th Annual Great Grove Bed Race.
The racing teams involved four race-bed pushers and one in-bed rider. The home-made beds were creatively decorated in different themes, with the racers dressed up in costumes to match.
The teams ran against the clock and down Grand Avenue. Then, the top eight fastest teams competed for the winning title.
Each bed was sponsored by local community members, organizations, businesses, individuals and clubs.
Mark Rojas with Olfactory, a brand news story in the Grove, said he did it for the fun and for a good cause.
"As you can see we specialize in fine teas, soaps and oddments. We also have old fashioned, handmade toys and candy," said Rojas.
"We out here representing the Olfactory, supporting the charity and pushing our Queen Marie Antoinette" said Rojas.
The event's proceeds will go to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Miami-Dade.
