Man Charged In Stabbing Death Of W. Dade Mother, Son
W. MIAMI-DADE (CBS4) - A man been charged in a stabbing that killed a West Miami-Dade mother of two earlier this month.
Prosecutors have charged Tomas Sicilia-Perez, 39, with 2nd degree murder and attempted 2nd degree murder in the stabbing deaths of Maria Plasencia, 42, and her son, Dayron Pastrana, 19.
Police say on January 19, Sicilia-Perez arrived at Plasencia's home on at 13300 SW 58th Terrace armed with a knife. Neighbors heard screams coming from the apartment and called the police.
Miami-Dade investigators said when they arrived they found the bodies of a woman and her adult son dead. The woman's teenage girl, who managed to escape the home during the attack, was taken to Miami Children's Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
"What I saw was the ambulance coming in and a body being dragged out with several gushes of blood coming out of what looked like knife wounds, his wife laid out on the floor," said Eric Kahlan.
After attacking the family, police said Sicilia-Perez apparently turned the knife on himself.
"Based on the information we have this does appear to a domestic situation. We believe it may have been a relationship between a man and a woman, we don't know exactly what happened to provoke this but we believe at some point this male subject attacked this woman along with her kids," said Miami-Dade police spokesman Detective Roy Rutland.
Sicilia-Perez was taken to the Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital in critical condition, where he is still recovering.
