Volunteer Search For Missing UF Student Ends Tonight
GAINESVILLE (CBSMiami) – The volunteer search for missing UF student Christian Aguilar will end Friday night, however, the Gainesville Police Department will continue to conduct the official search for the South Florida teen.
Aguilar disappeared more than two weeks ago.
Gainesville police said that as of 5 p.m. Friday, they will no longer be coordinating the volunteer effort to find Aguilar, who is presumed dead.
According to the Gainesville Police Department, multiple areas have been searched with help from hundreds of volunteers who came from all over the state of Florida, especially Miami where Aguilar graduated from Doral Academy Prep School in West Miami-Dade.
Additional areas will continue to be searched by officers and other personnel that are specially trained in Search and Recovery. Police emphasized they want any evidence found at this late date to be handled only by law enforcement.
Aguilar's longtime friend Pedro Bravo is being held without bond at the Alachua County Jail on first-degree murder charges in connection with the disappearance.
Court records revealed police found Aguilar's backpack in the bedroom closet of Bravo's apartment and blood was found in several locations of Bravo's 2004 Chevrolet Blazer.
