Violent Hialeah Gold Chain Thieves Caught On Camera
HIALEAH (CBS4) - A man was robbed at gunpoint Tuesday in front of a Hialeah auto body shop, police said.
The ambush-style attack was caught on surveillance video along East 10th Avenue and 3rd Street Tuesday afternoon.
The victim is so scared, he doesn't even want police to release his name, but they released the surveillance video in hopes of catching the four people responsible for the mugging.
"They run up behind him. They surprise him and they pistol-whip him," Sgt. Eddie Rodriguez said.
The men drive up in a black Ford Escape SUV with dark tinted windows and rims, Sgt. Rodriguez said.
Three guys got out of the car and attacked the man, ripping his gold chain from his neck.
"Apparently, this was something they must have seen him earlier in the day wearing that chain to stop wherever he goes and surprise him," Sgt. Rodriguez explained.
Witnesses watched the scuffle in horror.
"I've never seen something like this happen here," Alberto Jockey told CBS 4's Lauren Pastrana. "The guy is a good kid. He comes here all the time."
Police believe two of the men are in their early twenties.
They've identified the 3rd person as Allan Taron Hamilton.
As of Wednesday night, no arrests had been made.
They don't have a description for the person driving the getaway car, but consider the men to be armed and dangerous.
"They not only robbed him at gunpoint, they pistol whipped the victim just for a chain," Rodriguez said. "What else would they do for more?"
He said this case should serve as a reminder for people to be discreet about their jewelry so they don't become targets for robbers.
