SUNRISE (CBSMiami) – The Florida Panthers have been getting great play from several of the team's top forwards, and one of them got some national recognition on Monday.
The NHL announced that Panthers second line center Vincent Trocheck has been named the league's Third Star of the Week.
Pittsburgh center Sidney Crosby was named the league's first star and Ottawa defenseman Erik Karlsson was named the second star.
Trocheck finished the week with six points (3 goals, 3 assists) in three games in which Florida went 2-0-1, helping the team keep a healthy lead in the Atlantic Division.
The 22-year-old has already surpassed his career single-season highs in goals, assists and points. He currently leads the Panthers with 17 goals and 11 power play points while adding 16 assists in 52 games played.
Trocheck's line with Jussi Jokinen and Reilly Smith has become one of the most consistent elements for the Panthers on a game-to-game basis.
