Miami Activists Hold Vigil In Honor Of Homeless
MIAMI (CBSMiami/AP) – A vigil was held in Miami to honor and remember the homeless who have died over the past year.
Miami area activists joined the national vigil last week at government center.
Miami's vigil was one of the 150-plus planned around the country.
The events are organized by the National Coalition for the Homeless and other nonprofits to bring attention to those whose lives often end anonymously.
According a report by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, Florida is one of five states that account for more than half of the homeless population in the United States. The report also found Florida had the largest decrease in homeless since 2007 but did not provide an explanation for the change.
