DAVIE (CBSMiami) – New cell phone captures disturbing images outside a Davie restaurant as a man is repeatedly punched in the face and nearly run over by a motorcycle.
Davie Police Sgt. Mark Leone told CBS4's Peter D'Oench that the incident happened just after 8 p.m. last Saturday outside the Twin Peaks restaurant at 2000 South University Drive just south of I-595.
Leone says there was an argument between patrons that turned violent in the parking lot. A witness told CBS4 that it happened after his motorcycle club had been on an excursion.
"We were able to get cell phone video that shows the gentleman that was arrested reaching over and punching a man 4 or 5 or 6 times," Leone said. "Some friends came to his aide and broke it up. That gentleman walks away and other people start mingling.
"He gets on his motorcycle and you can hear him revving it up and then he takes his motorcycle and drives right through the crowd and almost runs over the guy," added Leone. "Luckily his injuries were not serious. He had minor scrapes and bruises to his legs and his arms."
The cell phone video captures the sounds of the crowd as the victim, Marco Correa, was repeatedly punched in the face.
The video shows the motorcycle lunging forward and the suspect falling off it.
He was then subdued by the crowd.
Leone says that suspect, 32-year-old Evans Enrique Diaz, was charged with aggravated battery, aggravated assault and simple battery.
His arrest report says he is from Davie and is "self employed."
Leone said it's not clear what sparked the fight.
"We are told a large fight started inside the restaurant," he said. "It's unknown how it got outside. It did spill outside. We are told that other fights transpired. We don't have anybody for that. We can see in the video that some people are wearing leather jackets. They are possibly in some type of motorcycle club or motorcycle gang possibly. We really didn't get an idea of what prompted them to start fighting."
One witness told CBS4 that his motorcycle club did not want him to comment about what happened.
Twin Peaks restaurant also did not want to comment.
Leone is urging witnesses to come forward.
They are asked to call Broward Crime Stoppers at (954) 493-TIPS (8477).
