WILTON MANORS (CBSMiami) -- Police are trying to track down two young men involved in a violent armed robbery in Wilton Manors.
It happened Sunday, February 12th, around 3:30 a.m. in the 100 block of N.E. 21st Court.
Surveillance video captured the two criminals, crouching behind some bushes as they wait to ambush their victim, who was walking westbound along the street.
Dinis Klad was the man running from the two thieves. He had just separated from his friend right before the attack.
"The security camera shows that I am texting that time. And I was texting to my friend, 'Are you OK? Did you get home?'" he said.
Klad was walking home after a night out in Wilton Manors. He says he's made the walk before and always feels safe.
"Three minutes away from bars clubs and restaurants and a lot of people was walking," he said.
As they make their move and rush at him with a gun drawn, the Klad runs off.
The suspects then jumped into their car, a dark-colored 2012 or newer Honda CRV, and chased after the man.
"The suspects caught up to the victim down the street where they pistol whipped him and stole his personal belongings," said Wilton Manors Police. "The suspects were last seen fleeing the area eastbound on NE 21st court in the above described vehicle."
The robbers got away with his credit card, $12 and his cellphone, which they dumped in someone's yard.
Klad just moved to South Florida from Chicago and says he felt a lot safer here.
"I didn't expect that it's going to happen to me in this area," he said.
He says his days of making the three minute walk to Wilton Manors are over.
