Victims Identified In Keys Plane Crash
KEY WEST (CBSMiami) – The Florida Highway Patrol has identified the bodies of two men who died in a plane crash in the Florida Keys Thursday. The bodies were not found until Friday afternoon.
According to Sgt. Pikul with the Florida Highway Patrol, the two victims were Wojciech Korjat, 31, and Sebastian Majewski, 32. Both men were visiting the area from Poland.
The plane was a private plane with the tail number N53589 and was believed to be a version of the Cessna 172. It had been rented from Tamiami Airport a few weeks ago.
FHP said the men were leaving Key West Thursday when the plane went down between 8:30 and 9:30 p.m. Thursday. FHP doesn't know what the final destination of the two men was, but the plane did go down shortly after takeoff.
The Polish consulate was notified of the crash and is handling issues for the family of the two victims.
The National Transportation Safety Board sent an investigator to help with the recovery of the aircraft and the NTSB said it will handle the crash investigation from this point forward.
