Vice President Biden To Speak At MDC Graduation

MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- It's history in the making, once again, at Miami Dade College, not only will thousands of dreams to be fulfilled on Saturday but the college will be adding another high-profile speaker to their list.

Vice President Joe Biden will be taking center stage as the keynote speaker at this year's graduation ceremony on Saturday, May 2nd.

"Miami Dade College has always been at the top of the list at the White House regardless of who is sitting at the White House. This institution's level of achievement and success of students is legendary nationally" said Dr. Eduardo Padron, President of Miami Dade College.

In 2011, President Barack Obama gave the commencement speech to thousands of MDC graduates at the James L. Knight Center. The year before former President Bill Clinton addressed those graduates and former President George W. Bush was the keynote speaker for the 2007 graduating class.

"Every president, every dignitary want to make sure to come to MDC because this is a celebration of the American Dream," said Dr. Padron.

Vice President Biden will be addressing the graduates from the Inter-American and Homestead Campuses.

Student Body President Seth Stultz of the Homestead campus will also be giving a speech while the vice president looks on.

"That is going to be difficult to have a powerful figure sitting behind me. I have to make sure I say all the words correctly. I want to make it memorable for the students. Like my mom always says, 'Practice makes perfect,'" said Stultz to CBS4's Marybel Rodriguez.

There will be 15,000 students making up the graduating class of MDC 2014.

Due to the  large number of graduates there will be five separate ceremonies.

Other keynote speakers will be the presidents of New York University, Duke University, the University of Nebraska and the Ford Foundation. They will each be presented with an honorary degree.
