Venetian Causeway Reopens Miami PD After Suspicious Package Deemed Safe
MIAMI (CBSMiami) – It was a quiet Wednesday morning at NE 15th and Bayshore Drive. But that all changed at 2 p.m.
"All these cop cars came and cut us off," said Richard Netkin.
He is a resident at the Sandpiper right next to the Venetia Condominium located at 555 NE 15th St.
A report of a suspicious package inside a vehicle parked in that garage led to the Miami PD bomb squad being dispatched to investigate.
"We have an alternative of conducting an X-ray of the inside of the package. That's what our detectives are doing," said Commander Freddie Cruz.
The X-ray process takes a little longer, but is necessary to keep everyone safe.
While this occurred, Cruz said "there is no one allowed inside or outside the building. Those inside must stay inside."
That meant residents not home could do nothing more than watch and wait outside for hours. The investigation also closing the Venetian Causeway all afternoon and evening.

"We have not linked the vehicle to a resident, but it could be a visitor. It's all part of the investigation," said Cruz when asked about the vehicle.
At 9 p.m. it was determined the vehicle was safe, opening up the causeway and the building itself.
As for the package, Cruz said it was "equipment that may have looked to be devices used to make a bomb." But ultimately Cruz said the situation was given the all clear.
The investigation is ongoing as to who the vehicle belonged to.
