Attack Survivor USS Cole Arrives At Port Everglades
FORT LAUDERDALE (CBS4) – Sailors on board the USS Cole will be spending the next three days relaxing under the South Florida sun.
The Navy destroyer docked at Port Everglades Thursday morning for three days of shore leave. In 2000, the ship was targeted in a terrorist attack in Yemen: seventeen American sailors were killed and 39 were injured.
It'll leave Saturday evening.
A "Toast the Crew" party, which is open to the public, will take place Thursday at 6:00 p.m. at Briny's Pub on Fort Lauderdale's downtown Riverwalk.
During their layover, crew members will also be treated to fishing trips, a Miami Dolphins exhibition game and a visit by the Dolphins cheerleaders.
