USPS To Close Two South Florida Branches
MIAMI (CBS4) - Two South Florida post offices will close permanently due to a decrease in revenue, the United States Postal Service announced Monday.
The Edison Center Finance Unit at 760 NW 62 Street and the Miami International Airport Finance Unit in the fourth floor of the airport terminal will close its doors permanently on Friday, June 3, 2011.
The USPS cites a drastic decline in mail volume and postage sales as the reason for the closure. It is estimated that nearly 30 percent of postal transactions are completed using alternate retail channels.
Officials report a 2010 revenue of $67.1 billion, down from $74.9 billion the previous year.
All Post Office Box customers will receive a Change of Address card and information on Post Office Box availability and neighboring Post Offices.
The USPS is ensuring customers that the Finance Units are retail operations and their closures will not impact local mail delivery.
Customers with concerns or questions are urged to contact the Miami Postmaster's Office at (305) 470-0455.
