University Presidents Pitch Tuition Deal To Lawmakers
TALLAHASSEE (CBSMiami) – University presidents in Florida have made a pitch to legislators in Tallahassee: add $118 million in state funding and they will not raise tuition.
The 12-school State University System made the pitch to lawmakers Wednesday.
Governor Rick Scott said he supports the proposal and has opposed tuition increases for higher education. Still, Scott supported a $300 million reduction in spending for state schools in 2012.
Scott said he wants to work more closely with school presidents and student leaders as his staff crafts his latest budget recommendations and other education proposals ahead of the 2013 legislative session.
