University Of Miami Hospital Opens New Helipad
MIAMI (CBSMiami/AP) - A new helipad was opened Monday on the fifth floor of the University of Miami Hospital.
Hospital CEO Dan Snyder said in addition to providing greater access to medical care for patients, including those from the Bahamas, the helipad will be a key drop-off point for medical supplies and personnel.
Bahamas Minister of Health Dr. Perry Gomez attended Monday's opening ceremony, along with hospital officials and University of Miami President Donna Shalala.
"We are providing another point of entry for patients across the region to access our research-centered care and clinical trials," said Pascal Goldschmidt, M.D., Dean of the Miller School of Medicine. "We continue to work with our partners at Jackson in providing the only Level 1 trauma care in Miami-Dade. Our trauma teams are second to none in saving those who are critically injured."
The University of Miami Hospital has 560 beds and allows access to doctors and other caregivers from the Miller School of Medicine.
