Universal's Theme Parks Hit Record Summer Attendance
ORLANDO (CBSMiami) - A certain boy wizard and a band of 'fast and furious' drivers are being credited with helping boost attendance to record levels over the summer at the Universal Studios theme parks in Orlando and Hollywood.
Comcast's NBCUniversal division, which owns the theme parks, reported a 14 percent increase in revenue and operating cash flow in the third quarter, according to the Orlando Sentinel.
The increase at the parks are being attributed to the opening of The Wizarding World of Harry Potter - Diagon Alley at Universal Studios Florida, as well as adding Fast and Furious: Supercharged to the Hollywood park's famous Studio Tour tram ride.
The theme parks brought in roughly $896 million in revenue in the third quarter. Year to date, the parks have pulled in $2.3 billion, a nearly 23% increase over the previous year.
NBCUniversal also saw a record-breaking box office quarter driven by "Minions" and "Jurassic World."
Overall, Comcast reported an 11.2 percent increase in revenue to $18.7 billion.
