UM Versus FSU, An All Day Affair
TALLAHASSEE (CBSMIAMI) -- The Tallahassee tailgate was an all-day affair with some fans setting up shop 10 hours before kick-off with signs, food, and booze all for the University of Miami Hurricanes versus Florida State University Seminoles game Saturday.
By 1 p.m. Saturday, the Civic Center parking lot was crawling with Canes. Hundreds of Hurricane fans made the trip to Tally in hopes of watching the underdogs defeat the third ranked Florida State Seminoles.
"Everybody is passionate about it. Everybody wants to win," said UM fan Peter Chao.
For twins Brian and Greg Layman, the rivalry runs deep.
"A little hostility here and there, but not too crazy because we know what's up. Five national championships versus two. No big deal," said Greg Layman.
There's no love-lost between husband and wife team Lynda and Lonnie Hennequin
"I just want to win. If he gets a good game, he's happy," said Lynda Hennequin.
"She has to win. I don't have to win," said Lonni Hennequin.
By the late afternoon Saturday the campus was filling up fast and the Spirit Drum outside Doak Campbell Stadium had already been beating for 22 hours which is a tradition before each Florida State University home game.
By 6 p.m. Saturday, the Canes rolled up to the stadium to a fairly a warm welcome, even in enemy territory.
After warm ups and all the pomp and circumstance that comes with college football, 8 o'clock kick-off arrived and everyone realized, the day was just getting started.
