UM Holds Forum On Venezuela
CORAL GABLES (CBSMiami/AP) – Following weekend demonstrations across South Florida in solidarity with Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro's political opposition, the University of Miami's Institute for Cuba and Cuban-American Studies is gathering to examine the mass protests in the country and what potential effects it poses on Cuba.
Cuba provided Venezuela with doctors and other health care workers, under the late Venezuelan president Hugo Chavez. Venezuela also provided the communist island with oil.
The relationship continues under Venezuela's current president Maduro.
The panel Tuesday will feature U.S. intelligence officer and Miami researcher Brian Latell and former Radio Marti Director Pedro Roig.
