UM Baseball Ranked No. 1 for First Time Since 2008
Winners of nine straight games and 20 of its last 22 contests, the University of Miami baseball team ascended to the top of the college baseball polls released Monday.
The Hurricanes, who were last ranked No. 1 on June 10, 2008, won their lone game in South Bend, Ind., over host Notre Dame 10-2 on April 10 and also topped FGCU 4-0 earlier in the week on April 5.
Miami (25-4, 11-2 ACC) moved up one spot to No. 1 in Baseball America's top 25, and made its first-ever appearance at No. 1 in the D1Baseball.com top 25 by jumping two spots from last week's position of No. 3.
With a first-place ACC record, Miami also topped rankings from Collegiate Baseball Newspaper and Perfect Game, and moved into first in the USA TODAY Coaches Poll.
Miami garnered 26 of 31 possible first-place votes in the Coaches Poll.
The Hurricanes return to Alex Rodriguez Park at Mark Light Field on Tues., April 12 for a matchup with nearby Nova Southeastern. First pitch for the contest, slated for broadcast on ESPN3, is set for 6 p.m.
