UF's Jenkins Returning To School
GAINESVILLE, Fla. (CBS4) - The Florida Gators defense got a big shot in the arm Monday when star cornerback Janoris Jenkins announced he'll return to school for his senior season.
Jenkins is a three-year starter at UF and was projected to be a first-round draft pick. Jenkins was a first-team All-SEC selection by the Associated Press.
The move for Jenkins isn't necessarily a shock to college football observers. By returning to school, he will learn under the tutelage of new head coach Will Muschamp.
In addition, he will be subjected to training every day against a pro-style offense run by UF's new offensive coordinator, Charlie Weis.
Jenkins played his best football against the SEC's best receivers. Georgia's A.J. Green, Alabama's Julio Jones, and South Carolina's Alshon Jeffrey all averaged 38 yards against Jenkins and one touchdown between them.
Green, who Jenkins shut down consistently, could be one of the top five players selected in the upcoming 2011 NFL Draft.
Muschamp said Saturday that no players had left the team since his arrival. Safety Will Hill is considering turning pro, but has not announced his intentions. Underclassmen have until Saturday to declare for the NFL draft.
