UF & UM Get Noon Kickoff On September 7
MIAMI (CBSMiami) – There's just fewer than 100 days until the kickoff of college football season, but University of Miami fans are already hot under the collar for the scheduled home game against the Florida Gators on September 7.
The highly anticipated matchup will be on national television on ESPN. But what has Hurricane fans fighting mad on social media is the scheduled kickoff time of noon.
UM versus UF go the noon kickoff because ABC will be televising NASCAR and ESPN will televise the Michigan vs. Notre Dame game in prime time, while ABC will televise Oregon at Virginia at 3:30 p.m., according to CBS4 news partner the Miami Herald.
That left UM vs. UF to be kicked over to the noon timeslot. Canes fans were upset over the time and felt it was a slight for a potentially very good football game. However, it's also because Canes tailgaters will have to be up at the crack of dawn to get in a full day of tailgating before the kickoff.
But, Canes tailgaters shouldn't complain because across the SEC games start at noon and it's never stopped the SEC fans from enjoying quite a tailgating experience before the early kickoff.
The Herald also reported that the season opener for the Canes against Florida Atlantic will kick off at 8 p.m. on ESPNU.
