UF Extends Muschamp's Contract
GAINESVILLE, Fla. (CBSMiami) – The University of Florida used to be about competing for national championships, but now, a 7-6 record is good enough to earn you a contract extension.
According to the Sporting News, Florida Gators head coach Will Muschamp received a one-year contract extension that will keep him in Gainesville through the 2016 season.
The extension however doesn't come with a pay raise since Muschamp is already making $2.75 million.
"Coach Muschamp's original contract was for five years with an option year," UF wrote in a statement. "The UAA exercised that option year in January and he now has five years remaining on his current contract."
Muschamp had rough go of it in his first season trying to replace Urban Meyer. The Gators offense struggled as it transitioned away from the spread-option run by Meyer. The defense was solid, but unspectacular through the year.
But Muschamp made up for the lack of wins with a stellar recruiting class rated in the top 10 of all major recruiting services.
Now, Muschamp must translate all of that talent into wins on the field in a hurry, because 7-6 in consecutive seasons won't cut it with the Gainesville faithful.
