UF Debuts Florida's Fastest Supercomputer
GAINESVILLE (CBSMIAMI/AP) - The University of Florida will unleash the state's fastest supercomputer on Tuesday during a dedication ceremony in Gainesville.
The computer, nicknamed HiPerGator, was manufactured by Dell and can crunch some pretty incredible numbers.
The HiPerGator has the capability to process data at 150 trillion calculations per second.
The computer is expected to be used for research ranging from new medicine development to the origins of the universe and even calculate climate change for the next 50 years.
According to the Gainesville Sun, the computer cost $3.4 million and will sit inside a $14 million, 25,000 square foot building.
