UF Announces Weis Hiring
GAINESVILLE (CBS4) - The Florida Gators began their first week without former head Urban Meyer by hiring one of the best offensive minds in football to take over the Gators offense.
Monday, UF head coach Will Muschamp confirmed that former Notre Dame head coach, and current Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator, Charlie Weis will be bringing his talents to Gainesville. Weis will remain with the Chiefs through their postseason run.
The move is a stroke of genius for Muschamp. Weis will have control of the offense, which no one has ever questioned his ability to coach. That will free up Muschamp to work with the defense and install a more attacking defense that have become Muschamp staples.
Weis was in over his head when he was the head coach at Notre Dame. There were unrealistic expectations placed on him based on his own statements and his NFL pedigree. Weis' offense could always move the ball and score. His problem was having no defense, which Muschamp will solve.
Muschamp is considered one of the best defensive minds in all of college football and by adding Weis, he is looking to continue to reign supreme in recruiting the best talent in the state of Florida.
Florida now has to deal with Florida State for the top recruits, especially with the Seminoles coming off a 10 win season and victory in the Chick-Fil-A bowl.
One thing is for certain, with Jimbo Fisher nearly having a completely rebuilt Seminole team and Muschamp having UF at the top of the mountain already, the "U" may be in deep trouble.
