FORT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) – Uber, the popular ride-sharing service, is still operating in Broward County but it's not clear for how long.
A day after, the county commission passed an ordinance imposing regulations on Uber and other phone app based ride-sharing services.
The company is standing by their statement which says in part, "We cannot operate in Broward County if such onerous regulations are enforced."
The new regulations require ride-sharing drivers to carry commercial vehicle insurance, register as chauffeurs and submit to fingerprinted background checks.

Cab drivers who have been fighting Uber since they arrived in South Florida said they are happy with the ordinance.
"We have been here so long and Uber tried to take over. It's wrong," said Renaud Metayer.
Uber driver Nabil Smitty said he can live with the new regulations and hopes the company doesn't pull out of the county.
"It's gonna be too bad because I just bought my car for that matter," said Smitty.
Longtime Uber user Alec Warren said he'd be stuck without it.
"I would end up being forced to take cabs, and with the cost, I would probably stay home," said Warren.
