U.S. Marshals Capture Miami Shooting Suspect
MIAMI(CBS4) - A man who police said shot three people in a rampage in Miami on Sunday is being held without bond after his arrest in Port St. Lucie.
It happens one day after his mother, Mattie Walton, made an appeal for her 23-year-old son Erin Cash to turn himself in; and she is telling CBS4's Peter D'Oench that she is relieved that her son was arrested without incident.
"I feel relieved. I feel very relieved," said Walton. "I would rather see him doing time than being six feet under. I'm very glad they got him. I feel bad for the people who were wounded and who we shot at. I didn't raise my son to do anything like that."
"I'm just so glad he got caught because it takes 50 pounds of pressure off my shoulder," she said.
D'Oench asked her why she thought her son did what he did and she said, "He was angry and he was frustrated."
Sources tell CBS4 News that police and marshals were able to track Cash because he kept making threatening calls to his girlfriend, Michelle Richardson.
As he came before a judge in bond court, Cash was ordered to stay away from Richardson if he was ever granted bond in this case.
Charges against Cash include attempted murder, aggravated battery, carjacking and kidnapping.
Police said the story unfolded on Sunday when Cash and Richardson were in their car along with their three-year-old son when they got into an argument near Northwest 13th Ave. and 41st St.
Police said Richardson jumped out of their moving car. That's when Police said Cash drove their car to his mother's home near Northwest 12th Ave. and 72nd St.
Then detectives said Cash drove to Northwest 12th Ave. and 62nd St. and shot one of Richardson's brothers and continued eastbound to Northwest 10th Ave. where they said he shot another brother. They were shot in the neck and arm.
Police said the final shooting took place just west of Northwest 12th Avenue by an apartment building on 58th Terrace. An innocent bystander was shot in the leg. Police said none of the wounds were life threatening.
D'Oench also spoke with the sister of Richardson who said she had not been able to reach her sister since the shootings.
It's not known why Cash picked Port St. Lucie.
He had told a friend he would not "go down without a fight," but sources said he surrendered peacefully.
Records show Cash has been arrested before for assault and robbery.
