Tyler Thigpen Ready To Start Against Bears
Former Dolphins starting quarterback Chad Henne was trying get healthy for the Fins' Thursday night's game against the Chicago Bears.
But after missing his last two practices due to a knee injury, the Fins will turn to QB Tyler Thigpen again to try and rally the team to another victory.
Thigpen has been sitting on the bench for the entire season and wasn't active for some games. Because of NFL rules, when Henne was injured near the end of the third quarter against the Titans; the Fins couldn't put Thigpen in until the fourth quarter. But when he came in, he pushed the team ahead to a victory.
Thigpen said he stays sharp because that's what the coach expects and wouldn't make an excuse for having to prepare on a short week.
"We have to prepare ourselves, we are professionals we knew that we had a Thursday Night game coming into the season and that we were going to have a short week and its two games in five days," Thigpen said. "For myself, get your rest at night get up in the morning and get ready to work."
For Thigpen, his play may yield quite a payday at the end of the season. Thigpen was offered a one-year extension before the 2010 season.
He's set to become a free agent at the end of the year, but if he plays well until Henne comes back; the Dolphins may want to keep him long-term as a backup to Henne.
Thigpen said he also feels he's developed a lot as a quarterback since he last started in Kansas City. He said he has developed into more of a drop back passer, but if the protection breaks down, he still has the athletic ability to get outside of the pocket and keep the play alive.
