$2 Million Powerball Ticket Sold in South Florida
MIAMI (CBSMiami) –Lottery machines were much quieter Thursday than they were Wednesday, when wannabe winners were scooping up tickets.
The lines were from here at the desk all the way down," Winn Dixie store employee Monica Kargos said.
Kargos' manager, Tarochan Singh, said they had a system to cope with the long lines.
"We had two people at the desk so we can get the line moving as fast as possible," Singh said.
Just two tickets matched every number drawn Wednesday for a piece of the record $587 million jackpot.
One was sold in Arizona, the other was purchased near Kansas City, Missouri.
But when your odds of winning are just one in 175 million, matching 5 numbers isn't too shabby either.
In Florida, lottery officials say more than 700,000 tickets were winners.
Some players got just a few bucks, while other got nothing.
When asked if she matched any numbers, Kargos responded, "Not at all."
But at the store where she works, Winn Dixie 378 in North Miami Beach, one customer can claim a $2 million prize.
The winner has not come forward yet.
The store will receive a $5,000 commission for selling a winning ticket.
"I am very happy for them, that one of our people that come to our store to shop," Singh said. "I encourage them to come and shop more."
It may not have been the big jackpot, but for some, it was enough to convince them luck may be on their side next time.
"Someone won $2 million here?' one woman asked. "I think i'll just stay right here!"
The estimated jackpot Saturday's Powerball drawing is $40 million.
The winning numbers in Wednesday's drawing were 5-16-22-23-29-6.
