Two Sisters Shot In Miami Gardens, Gunman At Large

MIAMI GARDENS (CBSMiami) - A woman who says her angry boyfriend shot both her and her sister at their home says she is horrified by surveillance tape that shows her terrified, 7-year-old daughter running away from their home.
That victim named Brenda, who did not want to show all of her face or reveal her last name, told CBS4's Peter D'Oench, "I think it was wrong to shoot me in front of my daughter. She was scared and crying. She feels better now I am coming out of the hospital.Fortunately, she was not hurt."

Miami Gardens Police say Brenda and her 42-year-old sister Darcel were rushed to Jackson Memorial Hospital. Her sister was initially listed in critical condition.

"He shot my sister four times," said Brenda.
"I am in pain right now," she told D'Oench. "I was shot above my chest in the arm. You know he was in anger. He didn't want my sister to have any company and he got upset and he went and got a gun and said he was going to kill everybody so he shot me. He told me he had so many problems but I don't know. He was just angry and rowdy."
The shooting happened just before 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Brenda's home at 2717 N.W. 168thTerrace.
Miami Gardens Police said they were looking for 60-year-old Burt Artie Smith.
Brenda said he fled in his 2002 green, 1500 Chevrolet pickup truck that has a Florida license tag of X73-9QP.
Sources say that is the same information contained in a police BOLO or be-on-the-lookout bulletin.
"I would like people to call police if they have seen him because he could have killed us," said Brenda. "I know he has a handgun.
Brenda said he had never done something like this before.
Neighbors also said they were troubled by the shooting at Brenda's home.
"You have to feel bad about this," said neighbor Arthur Stevens. "This is very disturbing to see something like this happening, especially for something involving a little child. Thank God she was not hurt."
Neighbor Clinton Jarrette said, "There was something not right with him. He used to wave at me all the time. Lately he stopped doing that. I talked with her next door and she told me she was going to sell the house and move somewhere. Maybe that was something.
I feel bad about this. It shouldn't have happened."
