Two Men Charged In Deadly Coral Springs Shooting

CORAL SPRINGS (CBSMiami) - If it weren't for a perceptive witness and quick thinking police officers, the family of Omar Khan may never have justice.
Monday afternoon Khan, 22, met up with Roderick Dalton, 20, and Robert Morris, 23, in a shopping center parking lot in the area of Coral Ridge Drive and Lakeview Drive. At some point, police said, Morris pulled a gun and shot Khan five times.
A witness sitting in a car behind Khan said she saw the shooting and called 911 for help for Khan who reportedly asked the witness not to call police and instead drove himself home.He collapsed getting out of his car. Someone in the home called 911. He was airlifted to Broward Health North where he died.
The witness described the car Dalton and Morris drove off in to police who spotted it a short time later and took both men into custody. Police found the gun reportedly used in the shooting behind a daycare in the area.

Khan's neighbors were stunned when they heard what had happened.
"The whole family is nice. It's a close community so we are just sad," said Marcia Cunningham.
Morris was charged with second-degree murder and weapons violations. He is being held without bond.
Earlier, he waived his right to a public defender and wanted to attend his first appearance in court without a lawyer. Broward bond court Judge John "Jay" Hurley convinced him otherwise.
"I used to be a private attorney and they charge a lot of money for a case like this. Where would you get the money for a private attorney? A lot more than $600," asked Hurley.
"I don't know I have to talk to my grandma," said Morris.
A public defender stepped back in but had little to say as the judge read accusations against Morris outlined in the police affidavit which included details from Dalton who has a $25, 000 bond and is apparently cooperating with police according to prosecutors.
Dalton said he was driving his truck with Morris.
Morris received a call to meet someone that owed him money, that money was going to be paid, according to the police report. But something went wrong.
According the arrest affidavit, Dalton stated that he heard several gunshots come from inside Khan's car. He said when when Morris came back to the truck he said "damn, I just shot him."
Dalton was charged as an accessory to second-degree murder.
Coral Springs Police said they are still serving search warrants and digging through the evidence in the case to try and determine how Morris and Omar Khan apparently knew each other.
CBS4's Carey Codd reached out to Khan's family on Tuesday afternoon but a family member at his home did not wish to talk about it.
