Two Men In Custody For Miramar Shop Robbery
FT. LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) – Two men suspected of pistol whipping a Miramar shop owner in before robbing the store are in federal custody.
On Thursday the FBI announced that 25-year old Jason Lord and 34-year old Shondrill Lamar Nunnally were taken into custody Wednesday evening by the South Florida Violent Crimes Fugitive Task Force. The men will be charged in Monday's robbery of Sam's West Indian Produce on University Drive.
A third person, who acted as the get away driver, remains on the loose.
Earl "Sam" Morrison, the owner of Sam's, sustained a bloody lip and swelling to the right side of his face after he got into a scuffle with one of men.
"They were at the cooler and they followed me up to the register," Morrison said. "By the time I turned around the gun was on me."
Morrison was roughed up and pistol-whipped. At one point he said he was knocked out cold, but when he came to, he said he fought back.
"I didn't want them to know I was armed," Morrison said. "I was calm enough that they didn't find that out."
He fired at the robbers, according to police.
Surveillance video shows one man stumbling through the store.
A trail of blood is proof Morrison's aim was spot on. The men ran out of the door but ended up dropping some of the cash taken from the cash register in the parking lot. They jumped into a newer model Burugndy Cadillac CTS and speed off.
An employee at a nearby auto parts shop, Jonathan Rodriguez, said he heard several gunshots.
"Times are hard. but you don't have to be robbing, shooting people," Rodriguez said. "He's a good guy. He has a family. He didn't deserve that."
