KEY WEST (CBSMiami) - It's been a busy 24 hours for Monroe County Fire Rescue as they helped 50 Cuban migrants who arrived in two groups on Sugarloaf Key.
On Monday a boat dropped off a group of 42 migrants on the ocean side of Lower Sugarloaf Key, about 20 miles from Key West, at about 6:15 p.m. and left.
Three of the Cubans, a male, pregnant female and 4-year-old girl were taken to Lower Keys Medical Center. Perez said the girl suffered from dehydration and seasickness.
"I have never seen so many at once," Battalion Chief Francisco Perez said. "They were very happy to see us. They said they had been on the ocean for two days."
Tuesday morning a second group of eight migrants were found on Sugarloaf Key.
Except for the girl's dehydration, all the migrants in both groups were in good condition and have been turned over to Customs and Border Protection.
