Police Search For I-95 Shooter

HOLLYWOOD (CBS4) - Two drivers were hospitalized Tuesday night after being shot in two different incidents on two major South Florida highways.

The first incident happened around 6:35 p.m. on I-95 just north of Hollywood Boulevard.  Done Cohen, 18,  was driving a black Chevy Tahoe south on I-95 when a dark sedan pulled along side him and shots rang out. Police officers in the area said they heard four gunshots as the car passed over Johnson Street.

One of the bullets struck Cohen old in the shoulder. He lost control and miraculously drove across five lanes of traffic without hitting a single vehicle before slamming into a concrete barrier in the median.

"It could have been a much worse situation if the vehicle was out of control and hit several other vehicles," said Florida Highway Patrol spokesman Sgt. Mark Wysocky, "Especially at 6:35 p.m. in the afternoon."

The injured teen was taken to Memorial Regional Hospital in Hollywood where he was treated and released.

The FHP shutdown the southbound lanes of the highway for more than an hour so Hollywood police could search for bullet casings and other evidence. This created a nightmare for evening commuters, the traffic back-up extended to I-595. Police do not have a motive for this shooting and anxious to talk to anyone who may have witnessed it.

The second shooting happened just after 10 p.m. on southbound I-75 where it connects to the State Road 826.  The FHP said it appeared to be a case of road rage between two drivers who had pulled off onto the shoulder.  During the fight one of the men reportedly shot the other man.  The injured man, a tourist from Virginia, was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital in critical condition.
