MIAMI (CBSMiami) - Two people were killed, a third injured in an early morning shooting at a Miami apartment building.
Police said they received a Shotspotter Alert about gunfire in the area of NW 8th Avenue and 70th Street around 12:30 a.m.
"We're extremely thankful that we have the Shotspotter Alert system that notifies police personnel of any shots heard in the area," said Officer Kiara Delva.
When their officers arrived at an apartment building in the area, they found the bodies of a man and woman in their 20s. One body was found outside an apartment door, the other was at the foot of the stairs.
A second woman who had also been shot was taken to the Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center.
A man who lives in the area said he heard what sounded 75 to 100 gunshots.
"It happens every day and you can't do nothing about it. The only person who can stop it is God, not the police, not even a friend, not even a mother or daddy," he said.
He said he's given up hope on keeping the peace in the neighborhood.
"What I want y'all to know is leave the guns alone man, they're not going to do nothing but make everything worse, you got people and families crying, innocent people getting hit. You know you just sitting out here, just walking around, and you get hit with a gun, a bullet, you know what I'm saying, you'll be in the hospital," he said.
Police were on scene investigating until about 2:30 p.m. They said they cannot confirm whether or it was a drive-by shooting or if the suspects were on foot.
Police have not released the names of those who died or said what led to the shooting.
