Two Dead, Four Hurt In I-95 Roadside Stop Crash
FT. LAUDERDALE (CBS4) - Two men are dead, four people hospitalized after the driver of a Toyota Camry slammed into an SUV on the side of I-95.
The accident happened Tuesday around 8:30 p.m. on southbound I-95 just north of Sunrise Boulevard. The Florida Highway Patrol said the driver of Ford Explorer had pulled off the highway because of a flat tire. Moments after the driver and four passengers had gotten out of the SUV, the driver of the Camry, identified as 24-year old Ravindra Mahanand of Southwest Ranches, lost control and hit the vehicle and those standing by it.
Forty nine-year old Victor Morales-Calderon from Miami and 31-year old Wuilmer Sanchez from Miami were killed on impact. The three other people from the SUV, Jose Turcios, 44; Nixon Flores, 18, and Emilio Carranza, 53, were all taken to Holy Cross Hospital in serious condition.
After hitting the SUV, the Camry careened down the embankment and slammed into a fence. Mahanand, who was also seriously injured, was taken to Broward General Medical Center.
