Two Alleged Burglars Arrested After Hallandale Beach Police-Involved Shooting
HALLANDALE BEACH (CBS4) - Two suspected burglars were arrested Thursday afternoon after a police-involved shooting in a Hallandale Beach neighborhood.
Police told CBS4's Carey Codd that a neighbor called police after seeing two men breaking into a neighbor's house on the 800 block of Southwest 3rd Street.
Officers arrived at the home while the suspects were still inside, and a confrontation occurred that forced them to use their guns.
"There was an encounter. The officer felt a threat to their safety and the officer was forced to shoot on one of the suspects," said Hallandale Police Capt. Sonia Quinones.
When asked what caused the officers to draw their weapons, Quinones said it was under investigation.
Neighbors weren't sure what happened but one woman said the police response makes her feel even safer.
"To be honest, response was right away," said neighbor Gloria Lawrence.
Hallandale Beach Police say they, like police departments everywhere, are dealing with more and more home break-ins and they are doing their best to respond to them quickly.
"It's a concern that the whole nation is being plagued with," said Capt. Quinones. "We depend on eyewitnesses to let us know when it's happening in progress."
The suspect who was shot was taken to Memorial Regional Hospital for treatment and the other is being held for questioning.
