Two-Alarm Fire Rips Through Sunrise Apartment Building
SUNRISE (CBS4)- Multiple units were affected after a two-alarm fire at a Sunrise apartment building Saturday.
The fire broke out on a second floor apartment at 10201 Sunrise Lakes Boulevard, building 158. Smoke and flames were coming out of the building.
No one was seriously hurt. That may be because not all heroes wear a firefighter's uniform. Quincy Mcgee was installing A-C units in a nearby building.
"I seen the flames in the lady's apartment so I stopped what I was doing and ran over there to her rescue," said Mcgee.
He helped bring out the 83-year-old woman who lives in the condo where the fire started. She was taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation and was expected to fully recover.
Belle Sanders said she's thankful for some quick-moving Sunrise police officers.
Her husband David is 100 and had a tough time scrambling to safety from his third floor apartment without an elevator.
"I was worried how he was going to get down, but they came up and they were with us all the way down, helping us," said Sanders.
Sixteen units were affected and five of those units have no power. They were also deemed uninhabitable after suffering damages, CBS4's Natalia Zea reported.
Residents were told to evacuate their apartment.
The Red Cross was on the scene to assist, although some are choosing to stay.
